 HEY,  Tara-Jean & Calvin’s  6th Anniversary working together here in Jersey !!

HOW THE SHOW ON AUGUST 4th EVOLVED!!!!

with film publicist, “lady in red who writes’ LAURA MADSEN, on a recent photo shoot. Those glasses were empty to begin with.

How this special NJ Discover LIVE TV Show featuring director Christopher Downie and cast members, Producer/Actor Brett Murray, Producer Ryan James, Actor Jay Booton (Jay plays Dave Klein in the film), and Actor Mark Frost (Kevin Smith in movie) of ‘Shooting Clerks evolved in a matter of days. Cut to two weeks ago, when Laura Madsen, “the lady in red who writes” and publicist extraordinaire contacted me regarding ‘Shooting Clerks’ and its three big special premieres in New Jersey in early August.

I’ve worked with Laura the last few years and its always a thrill/fun. She is a consummate professional. A few months ago, we  were actually  together in a Sean Guess film, “That’s Life.” I was a tall extra and Laura, a lead actress, played “Roseanne.”

So, once Laura explained all the Jersey excitement with ‘Shooting Clerks,’ I was down in a milli-second for covering the premiere. Imagine the filmed story of how ‘Clerks’ was made!  “Insubordination rocks,” one of my favorite lines from ‘Clerks.’  Then a bright light bulb (as opposed to a dim bulb) went off under my red Rutgers hat and I asked myself, then Laura, why not an NJ Discover LIVE TV Show appearance with ‘Shooting Clerks’ director Christopher Downie and cast members? Christopher is flying in from Scotland on August 3rd.  It all happened fast via trans-Atlantic emails and Laura’s coordination. It is really happening.

Now a little plug for NJ Discover. We are our name and so responsive to discover anything Jersey positive and relevant.

And our audience has grown dramatically from You Tube TV, Rutgers University TV and Long Branch TV and NOW we’re in most of Mercer County, and parts of Monmouth and Middlesex county. (M & M & M counties which means around 500,000  Jersey people in that audience coverage area) If you’re in those counties, check town’s local access cable TV for listings for NJ Discover LIVE TV Show.

OUR GUESTS FOR AUGUST 4th   IMDB BIO NOTES.

CHRISTOPHER DOWNIE, DIRECTOR

Director Christopher Downie

Christopher Downie was born on March 3, 1985 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a director and writer, known for Shooting Clerks (2016), How to Survive a Vampire Attack (2009) and The Twelve Steps of Jason Mewes: Get Greedo (2013).  Often uses the De Wolfe song ‘The Gonk’ in his work.  Often casts friend Mark Frost.

Downie Trivia

Worked as a background artist/extra for a little over a year. Is the founder of Scottish based multimedia production company Auld Reekie Media.  Has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Arts. Has three sisters and two brothers.

Originally worked as a one man crew, writing, directing, producing and shooting as well as scoring, editing and title design. To this day he still maintains a high level of control over his projects and continues to multitask during a production.

Has been a die-hard fan of filmmaker Kevin Smith since purchasing a rental copy of ‘Dogma’ from a friend in 1999.    Enjoys the literary works of Charles Dickens. Is a massive fan of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Is terrified of sharks yet finds them incredibly fascinating.

Accredits Hollywood Babble-On co-host Ralph Garman and fellow listener Thomas Towner for kick starting his career. During a 2011 episode of the popular podcast, Garman read aloud a casting call for the film that would become ‘Babble-On Begins’. Towner was cited as the one responsible for bringing it to Garman’s attention. Downie has been looking for Towner ever since and firmly believes he owes him a rather big debt of gratitude.

During the early stages of production on his Kevin Smith biopic, Shooting Clerks, Downie attended a screening of Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, along with a large majority of the cast. After the show, they were all invited back stage to meet both Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. As they climbed the stairs, producer Brett Murray, who knew how important the moment was for Downie, insisted that everyone hold back and allow him to enter first so he would be the first face Smith saw. Downie likens it to a trip to Santa’s grotto whereby the eager child (Downie), is lead by a friendly elf (Jason Mewes’ wife Jordan Monsanto), through the grotto door, past Mrs. Claus (Smith’s wife Jennifer Schwalbach) and into the grotto itself. Smith bypassed a hand shake and gathered up Downie, and later the entire cast in a bear hug. The meeting ended with both parties trading posters for their respective movies.

BRETT MURRAY, PRODUCER/ACTOR

Nicknames   Cheeky Bastard

Über Producer

The Guy Who Knows a Guy

Height         5′ 10″ (1.78 m)

Mini Bio (1)

Brett Murray is an actor and producer, known for Shooting Clerks (2016), The Twelve Steps of Jason Mewes: Get Greedo (2013) and Clockwise.

RYAN JAMES, PRODUCER

James Noir is a filmmaker of many faces based in Orlando, Florida. Graduating from the University of Central Florida’s limited-access Film BFA Production program, he aims to hit the ground running head on into the exponentially growing Film World. James has no intention of blending in; he means to give the audience what they perceive as comfort in the familiar, intentionally twisting it with something they will never expect. Primarily considering himself a “DirActor”, James prefers to write, direct, produce, act in, and edit every one of his own films in an attempt to balance the entire hat rack as opposed to just settling with one to wear as a career. In a time where specific “Hollywood” jobs are becoming harder and harder to obtain, he can afford to have at least one passionate back-up plan… or two or three or five

Auditioned for the part of Ernie on Shooting Clerks but was eventually cast as Dave Klein, due to his uncanny resemblance.

Was one of four members of the Shooting Clerks cast to hail from Manchester, England. Booton, as well as Harry Mitchell, Matthew Postlethwaite and Tom Sullivan took part in an open casting call organized by Surviving Actors. Matthew Swallow also auditioned and landed the part of Ernie O’Donnell only too walk off set during his first day of shooting.
