Know the Secrets of Speed Reading with Howard Berg, The World’s Fastest Reader
Welcome to the amazing world of speed reading, where words leap off the page and ignite your mind with lightning-fast comprehension. Conversations with Calvin had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Howard Berg, the fastest reader in the world.
Howard Berg is renowned as the world’s fastest reader by Guinness World Records. He is an extraordinary man who has captivated audiences with his awe-inspiring abilities.
As we get to know Howard, it seems like speed reading is not just a skill; but a superpower that allows you to turbocharge your life, work towards getting what you want out of it, and be all that you could be.
According to Howard, by training your eyes and brain to work harmoniously, you can absorb vast amounts of information in record time. He says: “Reading is to find what you don’t know but need to know. If you don’t understand what you read, it’s a comprehension problem, not a reading problem.”
Take it from him. Howard is able to devour 25,000 words per minute! In practice, Howard can read the many pages of 10 books in just 3 hours. Compared to this personal best, regular people pale in comparison, averaging a very modest 200 to 300 words per minute.
There are others with claims to the title ‘the world’s fastest reader,’ albeit not recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. These, including the claim of Nigerian comedian Josh Alfred, have been debunked.
By far, it is only Howard who has proven and can prove his reading and comprehension talents, time and again. Esteemed organizations and publications, such as Forbes and Entrepreneur, have showered him with accolades for his achievements.
A Conversation with Howard Berg
How does he do It? Can we do as he does, and perhaps double or triple our reading speed and understanding?
In the Youtube interview with Calvin Schwartz, Howard reveals that he isn’t that much into reading. What he loves is learning. He says that speed reading doesn’t work if you don’t understand what you read. Only in understanding can you unlock all that’s possible with speed reading and the knowledge you acquire through it.
According to Howard, what you know determines whether you make money or stay broke. He says that by teaching reading, comprehension, memory, study skills, and how to recall, you are equipping people with a Swiss Army Knife. Just through fostering a talent in reading, you can do anything.
Howard advises getting children into reading early by introducing books (or even comics) on topics they’re interested in. If a child is passionate about a topic, it will spark their interest in reading about it.
